The Guild's "Class System" (This entry was lifted from a member's comments found under "The Last 12 Months" and is re-posted here because it deserves greater discussion then it would find buried under another heading.) The basic, underlying problem with the Art Director's Guild is that representation for real working Art Directors, and their issues, does not exist. There exists within the guild an unspoken class system divided between those that have Agents and those that do not. For years the guild has been dominated by those with Agents who's workplace issues and deals are taken care of ahead of time. As well these individuals all ways have their Agents to rely upon when problems in the workplace occur. Consequently we have a union that does not see or recognize the issues and needs of the other half of our guild. Our Business Agent who claims to represent all, falls very much into the catagory of those with Agents when it comes to real workplace issues. While there is nothing at all wrong with having an Agent and the extra protection that comes along with it, there must be real recognition of those that do not. In truth their Agent currently is Scott Roth. Is the Guild and Scott providing the same level of service and protection that an individual Agent might provide? All thoughts and comments are welcome.
